CDI Financial Services Case Study #1

Client – NYC Hedge Fund, $2.1 Billion Assets Under Management

Executive Summary and Background

This 50-person hedge fund had an aging, owned storage and server infrastructure in its New York City office, with owned Disaster Recovery (DR) infrastructure installed in rented collocation space approximately 50 miles away. The fund’s owned infrastructure and end-user help desk support were being delivered by another MSP and DR testing was cumbersome and incomplete.

CDI Solution

CDI delivered a fully managed, cloud-based solution leveraging multiple, geographically diverse data centers. The solution consisted of managed and hosted Infrastructure as a Service and Desktop as a Service. Continuous replication between CDI data centers provided a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) in less than 10 seconds. Presently, this solution is fully managed and includes 7×24 remote and onsite resources to support the infrastructure, applications and end-users.

Benefits Delivered

This hedge fund can now focus on growing its investment portfolio, as opposed to managing its infrastructure and users, while benefiting from a favorable Total Cost Of Ownership (TCO).

Main drivers for the favorable TCO were:

  • Elimination of collocation expenses in Disaster Recovery Data Center
  • Elimination of CAPEX for a much needed technology refresh
  • Reduction in power and cooling expense for production data center
  • Increase in availability of their applications

Additional operational benefits achieved:

  • Simplified DR testing
  • Enhanced monitoring visibility and insight
  • By tapping into CDI’s assigned local Service Delivery Manager and Technical Account Manager, this fund gets the experience of having their own IT staff, while enjoying the financial benefits of leveraging an accomplished MSP
